Robyn Sedgwick, a historical interpreter at the Senate House State Historic Site in Uptown Kingston demonstrates hewing a log into a trough similar to those used in the 18th century to collect sap from maple trees. The Senate House will be having its annual Sugaring Off: 18th Century Style event this Saturday, April 9, from 11am-3pm. Activities will include a sap boiling demonstration, making jack wax candy, baking molasses cornbread over an open fire, and hewing a log into a trough, as seen above. Musical enetertainment will be provided by Mark Rust and the First Ulster Militia will reenct a raid on the sugar bush.The event is free and open to the public.
